The design brief. The editorial section of a construction company site, publishing project news, industry commentary and company updates. Corporate blogs usually fail in the same way: they are treated as an obligation, given a default template, and end up looking like an afterthought bolted to the main site.

The masonry grid. Articles are laid out at varying heights in three columns, some cards image-led, some text-only. The uneven arrangement is deliberate. A rigid grid of identical cards makes every post look equally weighted and equally dull; a masonry layout creates rhythm, lets longer pieces occupy more space, and keeps the eye moving down the page rather than sliding off it.

The dark header. The page opens on near-black with the section title in large light type, then transitions to a pale background for the article grid. That shift acts as a chapter break, marking the editorial area as a distinct part of the site while the palette keeps it recognisably the same brand.

Lead article treatment. The most recent piece is given a wide image and a longer standfirst above the grid. On a blog with regular output, that position does the work an editor would do in print — it says where to start, which is the one thing a reader landing on an archive page needs.

Consistent metadata. Every card carries a date, a title, a short extract and an author name in the same position. Repetition in the metadata is what lets a reader scan quickly, and the author names matter more than they appear to — corporate content signed by a named person reads as expertise, while unsigned content reads as marketing.

Typography and space. A clean sans at a comfortable reading size with generous spacing between cards. Blog archives are usually crowded to fit more posts above the fold; giving each card room means a reader takes in five properly rather than skimming fifteen.
