Real estate website design

The design brief. A property listings site handling sales and rentals, with agents, galleries and a searchable catalogue. Property is a filtering problem before it is a design problem: a visitor arrives with a location, a budget and a bedroom count, and everything else is noise until those three are satisfied.

The search bar. A dark filter panel sits immediately beneath the hero carrying status, city and state, category and an advanced option, with a search control at the end. Placing it at the top rather than in a sidebar is the central decision — it is the tool almost every visitor came for, and a listings site that makes people scroll to find the search is fighting itself.

Listing cards. Properties run as a three-column grid, each card carrying the photograph, the price, a status flag, the address, and then bedrooms, bathrooms and floor area as small icons along the bottom. That bottom row is what makes the grid genuinely scannable: a buyer can compare six properties on the three attributes that matter without opening a single one.

Status flags. Small coloured labels mark listings as new, featured, for sale or for rent. In a catalogue that changes constantly, those flags carry a lot of information in very little space and let a returning visitor spot what has changed since their last visit.

The hero treatment. Rather than a generic exterior, the opening image is a styled interior — a furnished living room, warm light, an ongoing-project label and a single property call to action. Interiors sell the feeling of living somewhere; exteriors sell an address. For a listings site the first job is aspiration, and the filtering directly beneath then handles the practical work.

Restraint in the interface. White background, thin rules, one accent colour on prices and flags. Property photography varies wildly in quality and colour across a catalogue, and a neutral interface is what stops a page of mismatched listings looking chaotic.
