Childcare website design website design by BridgeWeb

Childcare website design

The design brief. A site for a childcare service connecting families with babysitters and daycare professionals. The emotional stakes here are higher than in almost any other consumer category. A parent is deciding whether to leave their child with a stranger, and no amount of visual polish will overcome a design that feels careless or corporate. Warmth and competence have to arrive simultaneously.

The hero photograph. A carer and a young child playing on the floor with building blocks, shot from a low angle at the child's level. The choice of moment matters more than the photography. It is not a posed portrait, not a stock nursery, not a smiling family looking at the camera. It shows the thing being purchased — attentive care, in progress — and the low camera position puts the viewer in the child's position rather than observing from adult height.

The organic shapes. The hero background is built from large soft curved blocks of lavender and forest green, with the photograph breaking across the boundary between them. Curves rather than rectangles throughout. This is not decoration: hard-edged geometry reads as clinical and institutional, which is precisely wrong when a parent is looking for somewhere their child will feel safe. Rounded, overlapping forms feel domestic and gentle. The same logic drives the pill-shaped buttons.

Dual conversion paths. The primary action to book sits as a solid dark green pill, with a phone number immediately beside it separated by a small conjunction. That pairing is deliberate and it recognises something specific about this audience: a meaningful proportion of parents will not book childcare through a form. They want to speak to a person and hear how that person sounds. Offering both routes side by side, with equal prominence, respects that instead of forcing everyone down a single funnel.

The pricing block. Set plainly on white, with the hourly rate stated and a note that there are no extra charges. Childcare pricing is a genuine source of anxiety, and burying it behind an enquiry form is the single most common failure on sites in this category. Stating it early, without qualification, is both a kindness and a competitive advantage over every competitor who makes parents ask.

The colour-block mosaic. Below, a grid of unequal tiles alternating between photographs and flat colour panels carrying short statements — quality care, child care professionals, the age range served. The mustard, green and coral panels break up what would otherwise be a wall of imagery, and they let a short reassuring phrase carry the weight of a full section without needing a paragraph. The age range in particular is given its own tile, because it is a hard filter: a parent with a two-year-old needs to know in one glance whether this service is for them.

Video placement. A play control sits over a photograph of a carer reading with a child. Video is more persuasive here than anywhere else on the site, because tone of voice and manner are exactly what a parent is trying to assess and exactly what still photography cannot convey.

Typography. A friendly serif for headings with generous line spacing, and a clean sans for body copy at a comfortable reading size. The serif softens the institutional feel; the sans keeps the practical information — rates, ages, hours — unambiguous. Warmth in the voice, clarity in the facts.
